Ballet shoes may be worn by delicate girls, but they’re crafted by burly men whose hands tell another story. Juxtaposing stories from both a seasoned shoemaker and dancer the film explores the balance that they must strike between pain and perfection.
About the Director
Tali Yankelevich moved to the UK from Sao Paulo in 2005. She studied documentary filmmaking at London College of Communication, the following year she moved to Edinburgh College of Art’s Film/TV course where, aside from dabbling in experimental projects and developing a keen eye for cinematography, Tali progressed her skills and passion for observational documentary. She is particularly interested in films with a universal tone which examine and celebrate mysteries behind everyday life. In 2009 she made The Housekeeper, an observational portrait of an Orthodox priest and his housekeeper which screened in festivals worldwide including Silverdocs, Zagrebdox and Expression en Corto it went on to win the Royal Television Student Factual Award. She then went onto make 15& a ½ following two teenage girls coming of age world premiering at Visions du Reel in Switzerland.
