Bauhaus—Model & Myth
09 PROGRAM: Bauhaus
Documentary Feature, 2010, 103 min

Directed by: Niels Bolbrinker and Kerstin Stutterheim
Plays In: 09 PROGRAM: Bauhaus

Founded in Weimar in 1919, the Bauhaus school sought to reconcile fine arts with crafts, creating a new aesthetic that would serve industry. The Bauhaus was one of the twentieth century’s most important schools of art, and remains a key reference in the vocabulary of modern architecture and design internationally. Its faculty included major artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Lyonel Feininger, Paul Klee, and Oskar Schlemmer, and architects such as Walter Gropius and Mies van der Rohe. This film looks at the post-World War I origins of the Bauhaus and its revolutionary influence. Using accounts by alumni and archival materials, it also examines the underlying story behind the school’s closing. Read More
