Mikael, a severe man, lives a disciplined lifestyle with his teenage son Dani, but is suddenly forced to take in his long-estranged daughter Tilda after the sudden death of his former wife. Witnessing the immediate affection and attachment between his formerly separated children, Mikael begins to unravel as his gnawing suspicion that something more might be happening between them grips his family. Writer/director Aleksi Salmenpera and his trio of actors turn this age-old set-up into a razor-sharp, potent, nail-baiting thriller, mixing moral ambiguity, tense silences and shocking altercations to startling effect.

Born in 1973, Aleksi Salmenpera went on to study at the University of Technology in the department of Architecture from 1992 to 1996 and the University of Industrial Arts and Design Film Department, majoring in writing and directing from 1996 until 2002.  Salmenpera has since written and directed many shorts and features in addition to television work. His honors include being named the Finnish Film Director of 2007 and a Finnish Oscar nominee in the same year. Both FREEFALL and THE PIONEER won the national prize for best television drama in their year. THE PIONEER  also won the Special Prix Europa in Berlin 2006. Salmenpera's feature PRODUCING ADULTS was selected as Finland's Oscar nominee in 2004 and was award-winning at the Stockholm Film Festival of the same year.
